Missouri Record

If you are interested in politics & policy in Missouri, you better keep up on The Missouri Record (TMR).

Founder Patrick Tuohey gave us our marching orders: build a public website that could post original news articles as well as link to specific topical external news or blog posts. He wanted an administrative interface that allowed quick compilation of interesting news from all over the Internet. The site also needed to allow for posting of text and imagery in the form of original editorials, cartoons and other articles written on various topics concerning Missouri and national politics.

Missouri Record

TMR now sends out daily news updates to its members and posts new content daily to the growing fan base.

Most recently, the newspaper provided readers with both sides of the Healthcare Freedom Act, the first statewide referendum challenge to President Obama's signing of the Affordable Care Act, in the form of the Yes on Proposition C and Vote No on Prop C editorials.

The proposition passed 71% to 29% and we can only wait and see what the national impact will be.

Inbound link spikes traffic to online newspaper

Inbound linkage matters!

Around Feb 8, 2010, a particular blog post of an interesting billboard in Kansas City on The Missouri Record saw a massive spike in traffic from a major online site.kansas city billboard from Missouri Record

The National Review Online (NRO) linked to a blog post containing a photo submitted to The Missouri Record and the site's visits spiked to over 400x normal daily traffice over the following week.

The linkage immediately helped in bringing new and pertinent visitors to the site, but will also improve long-term search engine results, making TMR a place for content related to that of the NRO.
