I understand your skepticism. Does this warrant a blog post? Wouldn’t a social media post suffice?
Absolutely not! Also, when was the last time we posted something on social media? Oops.
One of the most overlooked features in Universal Analytics when we were compelled to switch to Google Analytics 4 was the ability to add annotations.
- Did you send out an email blast?
- Did you experience a technical hiccup?
- Did you get a foot of snow?
Annotate it all! We annotated anything that could have caused an anomaly.
Google recently announced that users now have the option to add notes directly to GA4 reports.
Here’s how you can create an annotation:
- In Google Analytics, click Reports on the left.
- Open the report you want to annotate and right-click any data point on any line graph.
- Click Add annotation.
- Add annotation details.
- Click Create annotation.
To view annotation details, follow these steps:
- In Google Analytics, click Admin on the left.
- Under "Data display," click Annotations.
- View the details of all annotations for a property.
